SMART MONEY ESSENTIALS (formerly BUILD YOUR OWN FINANCIAL PLAN) - Teleclass and Weekend Intensive Programs
Tired of not being in charge of your money?
Let’s face it, most women these days are stressed about money. Big time! And it doesn’t matter whether you have too little - or you make a lot of it - we still worry about it.
There are money concerns at every age and stage of life. Most of us worry about how to make ends meet, pay off debts and mortgages, save for emergencies, make sensible investments and plan for retirement. Many of us also fear for our own financial future and that of our children - especially in a world of increasing economic complexity and uncertainty.
And where do you go for help on money matters? Who can you trust? Who will truly understand? Where do you get the answers that work for you?
If you lack confidence in your ability to make the best financial decisions, you're not alone!
90% of women feel insecure about money and 50% of women are afraid of becoming bag ladies (even those earning over $100,000 a year)*. With so many financial products and services to choose from, so many pulls on our money, so little time, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and intimidated. No wonder we avoid taking charge of our money!
We know how difficult it is to get started and how confusing the financial world can be, but since no one has more vested interest in your money than you do, taking financial control has to start with YOU and a plan for your life.
- What do you want out of your life?
- Where do you stand with your money now?
- How do you balance today's goals with a secure financial future?
- How do you organize your money to make sure you get where you want to go?
- Who can you trust to help?
Answering these questions in an organized, structured manner is called creating a financial plan and is what our Smart Money Essentials program is all about.

"The changes I made because of the course were significant! I now own a townhouse and am well on the way to paying off my entire debt for new home, car, appliances, special assessments, etc. within 14 years. This means I will be debt-free by retirement; have a nice nest egg which won't be huge, but will allow me a certain amount of financial security; and am still able to enjoy my life today. All this is not something I thought I could achieve since my divorce 4 years ago. Amazing what you can accomplish with clearly defined goals and a detailed but flexible plan." Gail
Who exactly is the Smart Money Essentials (formerly Build Your Own Financial Plan) program for?
Financial planning isn’t just for people who have lots of money or complicated lives. It’s for anyone who wants to feel more in control of their money and their life.
Our program was designed with the following women in mind:
You are a professional woman, an entrepreneur or stay at home mom who wants to feel more confident and secure knowing that you will have the money you need to retire comfortably, to enjoy your work and family without feeling financial pressures and to have money left over for you. Specifically,
- You may be experiencing or contemplating a life transition like a career change, marriage, having children, or retirement and you aren’t sure what the impact will be on your finances. With so much uncertainty, you may be finding it hard to make decisions and it might feel like money (or the lack of it) is throwing cold water on your plans.
- Or, you may never have taken an active role in managing your (or your family’s) finances, but realize that it’s time to get more involved with your money either through desire to take charge or because of a life change such as divorce or death of a spouse.
- You may be tired of feeling stressed about money and are ready to take charge but you aren’t sure where to start, where to turn or who to trust.
If you are tired of feeling financially vulnerable and want to be more proactive and self-sufficient in your personal and financial life, this program is for you!
I already work with a financial advisor, why do I need to get involved in creating my financial plan?
Even if you work with a financial advisor, or are looking for one, learning the basics of financial planning and being actively involved in creating your own financial plan will enable you to delegate, not abdicate responsibility for your money. You will be in a better position to evaluate your advisor’s recommendations and a more confident and discerning consumer of financial products and advice.
How Does the Smart Money Essentials (formerly Build Your Own Financial Plan) Program work?
The program is highly interactive and hands-on and is designed to not only help you learn the basics of financial planning, but to give you the skills, tools, tips and techniques to take immediate action with your money.
The program is offered in two formats: In-person weekend workshops and 6 session teleclass programs facilitated by highly experienced financial educators, Karin & Sheila.
In both formats, you will also get a 140 page learning guide that distills all of the most important financial concepts in concise, practical, easy to understand language. It also includes stories, resources, and a CD with all the worksheets you need to build your financial plan.
“The Learning Guide for the course does a great job breaking down a scary subject into manageable pieces. It’s written in very accessible language and the tone was perfect - folksy, friendly, encouraging. The quotations and examples were great as they helped to emphasize certain points. I especially appreciated that you and Karin included your own stories too as it personalized the whole thing.” Marnie W.
As if that wasn't enough, you will also receive audio recordings of past classes which will help guide you through the materials so you can get started right away!
We know how busy you are so we’ve designed the program to break up complex topics into manageable pieces so you can integrate the information slowly and consistently. That’s why we send you the materials several weeks before the teleclasses or weekend workshop so you have time to read the materials, listen to audio tapes, work on worksheets and integrate the material, so you will be prepared with your questions for the teleclasses or weekend workshop.
Karin and Sheila co-facilitate the programs and sessions are facilitated by one or both instructors. We are available immediately before and after the sessions to answer questions privately if you would prefer not to participate in class discussions.
